The devastating bushfires that swept through southeast NSW in the summer of 2020 destroyed the disabled access toilet amenity at Myrtle Cove in Wonboyn, so Bega Valley Shire Council commissioned VIROtech to install a similar amenity on the site.
Project
Wonboyn Amenity
Product
Clivus Multrum CM10 Composting Unit
Location
Myrtle Cove
Completion Date
March 2021
Challenge
The project brief specified that we retain and utilise the existing concrete disabled ramp, so we worked with council engineers and landscapers to seamlessly link the new structure with the old ramp.
Solution
The facility is just metres from an estuary where oyster farms provide income and employment for a large sector of the local community, so the Clivus Multrum CM10 compost unit was fitted with a Zero Discharge Unit (ZDU) to create a closed loop system to prevent any environmental contamination.
A 140W solar system powers the system fan, the ZDU pump and motion sensors lights. A 500lt rainwater tank provides water for the handbasin and the building has some special modifications to increase the bushfire attack level (BAL) rating.
The amenity was officially opened by Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC QC, 39th Governor of New South Wales on 25 March 2021.
